Underworld - Jumbo

[ English ]
I recently started digging on my old cd books, and I found
Everything, Everything, by Underworld which I now ripped and have on mp3. One of their best tracks on the album to me is Jumbo, their live version (recorded on the DVD version of the album) is absolutely fantastic, look at those visuals!

Phylectic Museum | Seidel

[ English ]
Beautiful work by German artist, Robert Seidel
"Created for the 100th anniversary of the Phyletic Museum founded by Ernst Haeckel, Seidel’s centennial homage repurposed the museum as canvas for his palate of naturalist-sourced eye candy on 2/2/2008 in Jena, Germany."

Y Conference Visuals

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

[ English ]
A few weeks ago, the AIGA Y-13 Conference was held here in San Diego. I was commissioned to do all the motion work to brand the conference and later I got the chance to organize the entertainment for the after party.
The conference targeted graphic designers and discussed their possibilities to develop sustainable solutions (and questions) on their work.
The first part was the opening montage (for each day). The entire work was done in After Effects and Illustrator. That, took most of my time, considering that I'm still new to AE, but I think overall it came out clean.

For the after party I decided to team up with the Djs Beau (Re:Up Magazine) and Walker (Brokenbeat) for the music, and for the visuals I wanted to keep the branding used for the conference, So I did a bit of a remix of the original opening montage, and added a few elements, the faces you see, are from the conference speakers, the type work gives 15 easy to accomplish eco-friendly tips to apply on their work, a short stop motion animation showing the conference's badge, and through the entire Vj set I aimed to keep in tune with all the visual elements used on the conference, colors, type family, etc.

During the opening montage, a series of quotes, from different people were used, from John Lennon to Stephen Hawken, I suggested that those same quotes were mixed with the music as well. Not to mention all 3 of us where dressed with black turtle necks and black framed glasses (designer stereotype). fun night!

[ Castellano ]

Building Projections | Claudio Sinatti

[ English ]
I just stumbled across Italian director, designer and media artist Claudio Sinatti I was particularly interested on his building specific projections, the first one is a bit more of my taste, and it's supposed to be sound-reactive although the video is sped up so its not really great for the ears. The second one is pure commercial and very creative, the footballs flying out of the window is great.

If you are interested in this kind of thing, please check these
two previous posts: Uruk Videomachine | Etienne De Crecy

[ Castellano ]

Starwars By Cunningham

[ English ]
This might be pretty old, but I've never seen it before, looks great.
Not only because he is using recognizable characters that the audience can relate to, but the fact that he sticks with the theme during the entire track, the crowd seems to love it.
Recorded in 2005 @ Electraglide in Japan, clearly Chris Cunningham has talent not only as a director but as a Dj and Vj.

[ Castellano ]

Crosswired Day1 | Recap

[ English ]
Some photos from Crosswired's opening night. I also got some video of Jarrett Smith's visuals, The audio is very crappy, sorry about that (I was standing right next to the speakers) Other than that, it was a great night. I started my set late, so by the time I was just getting into that creative zone, the event was over. I wish it was longer!! I'm going to try making it up there again, to see another vjs. Remember this is going on till May11th!!.

[ Castellano ]

FSOL LIVE @ Essential Festival

[ English ]
I just found this short video from Future Sound Of London performing "LIVE" at the Essential Festival, Brighton in 1997.
I have heard about this show many times, but never actually seen the video, Apparently Brian Dougans & Garry Cobain decided to question de existance of the electronic musician performing at the actual stage, so they decided to do the gig from their production studio and broadcast everything from there. With the help of incredible visuals I think they actually pulled it off.

Light Attack | Sauter

[ English ]
Very interesting project by interactive installation artist Daniel Sauter.
"Light Attack is a media artwork, as well as social experiment, performed in public urban spaces. While driving through the city, an animated virtual character is projected onto the cityscape, exploring places "to go" and places "not to go", according to the popular Lonely Planet travel guide."

Uruk Videomachine

France based VJs, Antoine Legras and Stan Cixous are
Uruk Videomachine, a collective focused on monumental video projections. Antoine was kind enough to let me publish this footage from a recent gig they had during Christmas 2005 in Dijon, France.

The Video show was 15 minute long, and was performed two times a day for a period of 10 days, for more than 10.000 people. Antoine said that the message of the show was "the power of imagination" and that putting this together, took a lot of work, for the projection they used 4 video projectors (10.000 lumens each) and 4 computers using a custom made software to synch them all up. The way they incorporated the architecture details with the animation is what makes this project so beautiful and inspiring. Great work!
Make sure to check their site for more projects like this.
